Aldershot Diversion

On March 22, 2026, I rode VIA Rail through Georgetown and Milton to Aldershot on CN’s Halton Subdivision.

Metrolinx closed the Lakeshore West rail line to do track work at Long Branch for the weekend. They cancelled all Go Trains and replaced them with buses. However, VIA Rail continued to operate by diverting their trains north via Georgetown and CN’s Halton Subdivision through Milton.

Originally I tried for VIA #97, the Toronto->New York train but at the last minute they cancelled the train and replaced it with buses from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Fortunately, they gave me the option to switch to the later VIA #73 heading to Windsor. I only was on board until Aldershot where I could still catch a GO Bus back to Union Station.

Stopped in Milton to meet an eastbound CN freight
