George Alexander Keefer was a surveyor and construction engineer. In 1875 and 1876, he led the ‘M’ survey party which was surveying the upper Fraser River downstream from Tete Jaune Cache.
Keefer was a divisional engineering for construction between Boston Bar to Lytton and has the milepost at 178.3 kilometers west of Kamloops named after him (Burrows (1981) – British Columbia Railway Mileposts). The two nearby tunnels just west of the Cisco bridge across the Fraser River are named the Keefer tunnels.
